A huge problem with interacting with some of these parents would definitely be the language barrier. I speak spanish, but not very well. I don't know if their parents can speak english as well as them, so it might be difficult to communicate. Also, the ethnic difference also lead to a very different set of morals. My beliefs on discipline might be completely different from theirs, so I would need to be conscious in terms of sensitivity to those manners.
I would currently hit the same problem with the language barrier, and not matter how many someone learns to speak, you can't ever learn them all.
ReplyDeleteYou do have the advantage of being around the most common languages a lot in the classroom though, you might be able to pick up stuff there to communicate a bit. Also, I know some schools at least have administrators who can help as they sometimes know multiple languages.
